How to use Addon Applications in Ubuntu

    Hi,
Like Windows what are the ways to customize Ubuntu. What options are available in it. I have some add ons already. They are Eye Candy Applications. I had not tried yet to customize the operating system. I need some information on the same. What more does Unbuntu has under this category.

There multiple add on application in Ubuntu. They allows you to customize your operating system fully. Same like Windows you can put wallpapers, themes, etc. Eye Candy Applications means the decorative material for GUI. These can be icons, themes, wallpapers, 3d effects, etc. The manager you can use is Metacity and Compiz to run this types of applications. Metacity is the default one in Ubuntu. You can customize the desktop with it.

User Compiz Fusion a Windows Manager tool by which you can add up multiple effects on your desktop. The command line for installing the same is - sudo apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra emerald librsvg2-common. To switch to this tool you will have to click on System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager. Then just log off and log in again.

If you want to change the splash screen at the time of boot up then do this. First run the installation - sudo apt-get install startupmanager. Then go to System > Administration > Startup Manager. Add up your favorite image here. You can also add up Google Desktop on your screen. Avant Window Manager, Wba and Cairo Dock are the dock bars for your screen. For installing Avant Window Manager - sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator awn-manager and for enabling it - Menu > System > Preferences > Sessions > Add. Same for Cairo Dock - sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plugins.
