Explorer crashes upon opening USB flash drive

Hello,
I have issue about my USB flash drive, every time I access a flash drive, explorer gives me a prompt saying it has to close.
Say for example I open my flashdrive, the prompt appears, but I can still then copy from, or copy to my flashdrive. I can only assume it's an OS problem from this. Any suggestions? Should I reinstall XP?

Try "refreshing" the USB ports. Go to the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, there you can see at the bottom.USB System Controllers
expand the list (by clicking on the + sign.) Delete/Uninstall each item.
Reboot. The PC will refresh its "knowledge" of the USB ports.Try the System File Checker. this utility may give breif about the problem.

Re: Explorer crashes upon opening USB flash drive

Simply issue the following command in a Command Prompt window. To open Command Prompt window, type “Cmd” in Start / Run box then type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll.
Check if you have USB 2.0 support enabled in your BIOS. If it is enabled, see what happens if you disable it. Check your anivirus checking the USB "on access"?
Go to ControlPanel>AdministrativeTools>EventViewer, check for any entries in your system's log.

Re: Explorer crashes upon opening USB flash drive

Try holding the left-shift key before you insert it and keep holding it 10 seconds into after you connect it. There may be some autorun functions that need to be bypassed this way. Then open explorer and right click the drive and select explore. Don't Double click it or it may crash again.Explorer did not crash, but the drive letter and clickable disk picture don't show up. check your bios , is it enabled for USB2.0. try refreshing the USB port. Run the system File checker . Check your USB with virus scan . May be that cause problem,
