Windows could not finish configuring the system.

Not sure what happened, but I keep getting the error:
Windows could not finish configuring the system.
Restart the computer for Configuration. I tried to boot in safe mode and it gave me the same error. Any thoughts on what to try or is this a lost cause? I can 't remember all the stats of a computer as it is a file, but it exceeds all requirements.

I deleted the partition and then created another partition in FAT32. Then I formatted the drive. I then run windows 7 and let it change Fat32 to NTFS. It worked, Win7 is in use now. All I'm doing now to calculate how the drivers of the network find that with Vista (Win7) work. By the way, I originally had the NTFS partition with a copy of Win2000, apparently created for Win7 is not acceptable. Hope this helps someone.

I would recommend performing a clean install.

Start setup from DVD
At the screen showing the partitions on the hard disk, delete the partition.(if there is any) Let Setup create a new partition, format it, and continue. This way, some unexpected issues with Upgrade install can be avoided.

I have the same problem. I formatted the drive with WinXp. This is an old system with nothing special in it. P4 and 640 MB memory. I installed Vista RC1 without any problems. The video card is an nVidia Riva TNT2 M64, an old 2X AGP card that runs on anything. I'll try deleting the partition and format the drive which let me install win 7.
