Mac G4 fails to install Mac OS X 10.4.2

My Mac G4 fails to install Mac OS X 10.4.2. I had 10.3.9 and i wanted to upgrade my machine. I brought a CD from apple for my G4 and the CD says MAC OS X 10.4.2 installation disc for Mac G4. But when i install it tells me installation failed. Please help...

I think you may have purchased the OEM Disc. This disc will not work on your Mac, This disc is used by OEM manufacturers, this is the OS which comes with your MAc and will not work on your Mac. You need to buy a retail CD for the OS.

May be yours is an old Mac G4 17". Mac OS X 10.4.2 will not work on your Mac. It will work on the later models of Mac G4 17". Cross verify about this with AppleCare. Also if they are willing to replace the disk, get it replaced... All the best!

I have no idea about which CD they sent me. I will try to talk with AppleCare.

I don't think they will replace the disc, lets see what they says. I will have to get a new Mac then, which has OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard.
