iMac too slow to operate

A friend of mine has a Mac which started giving him problems, so i bought it from him to see what might be the problem. I noticed that the iMac too slow to operate. I installed Snow Leopard on the existing Leopard installation and it took 4 hours to update. It takes ages to boot and after boot it hangs. It starts once in a while and then every application or command takes atleast 10 minutes to execute. This is a weird problem, can anyone help me? I have never ever coma across such a problem. Please help...

Re: iMac too slow to operate

Did you update snow leopard to the latest update available? Did the problem started after installing Snow Leopard of before? I think this is caused due to some update that you might have done. Also try booting it with your Snow Leopard Disc, and post back what happens...

Re: iMac too slow to operate

I had a similar problem but it was before snow leopard was released. I took my Macbook to Apple Care and they told me to buy a new hard disk as my hard disk is dead. I think you should contact Apple Care first and see what response do you get from them...
