Vista won't shrink 1TG hard disk

Vista won't shrink 1TG hard disk. I am trying to do it with Windows Vista's default Disk Management Utility. Can anyone help me how to do it? Also i want to install Ubuntu with the freed space but i am not getting to shrink my hard disk. Please help...

Are you the administrator of the computer? I mean are you logged in as an administrator? Disk Utility will require administrative permissions and won't let you perform any operation from a standard non administrator account. Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator. Disable UAC is required. Find more detaild about UAC here and here.

Thanks for the reply rudra, but that wont help me, UAC on my Vista computer is already disabled. Also i am the Administrator and the only user of my computer. There is not other user account. Any way to shrink the disk? I need to install Ubuntu and its really urgent. I hope there is a way out...

May be you should try this out : Boot from Ubuntu's CD. Once done, select your language and select to install language and follow the on-screen instructions. Then when you reach at partitioning screen, select use largest continuous free space. That might manage the free space to use it for ubuntu. Hope this helps. Then from ubuntu use GParted to manage the disk space.
