Re: How to activate the print spooler?

This issue may occur if a third-party printer driver or a third-party service that is installed prevents you from adding printers, or if the third-party printer driver or the third-party service affects the functionality of a newly installed printer. Check this Microsoft guide : spooler error messages in Windows XP

Click Start then go to run and type services.msc, scroll down the list of services until you find the print spooler services, right-click on it and set it to automatic, reboot your PC and you can begin the installation.

Right-click on the "Computer" select manage option from menu and in Computer Management" select Services > then select Print Spooler and open it > Set the "Startup type" to "Automatic" and the "Service status" to "Start." >Click on "Apply" and "OK" to activate the spooler.
