Exchange 2003 outgoing external email is being bounced back

I am having a big problem and can't figure it out. This just started over the weekend. We have a SBS 2003 with Exchange 2003. All outgoing external email is being bounced back. It is happening to all emails. I have tried with
" housing.apollohosting.com as the smart host and the message says the email account does not exist where it was sent to and is rejected.
When I put the IP address of our email host we get the message that there was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server and says
No unauthenticated relaying permitted. The messages are stuck in queue with this option and not the other.
I can send external on Outlook that is not on the Exchange.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I would you to reconfigure it again and at the same time check out whether you have single IP address, if yes then it is most likely that a workstation has got compromised, at the same time also check out below links for similar type of issue, i hope you will get some solution over here

I would assume this has been resolved by now, 2 weeks later, but another piece of info: If you have been using this smarthost the entire time, its possible they implemented a change that requires SMTP authentication before they will route your outbound emails. You should contact Apollohosting to be sure they have not changed permissions on their end before going any further. If this server is onsite, you should also check with your ISP (if not ApolloHosting) to see if they have made any changes with outbound smtp traffic OR if they have a server available for use as a smarthost.
