From Windows XP open hosts file which has no extension, open it in notepad : "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" Now suppose you have kept Windows XP computer name as WinXP, so in this file change this line :
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    TO
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 WinXP
This will speed up your computer...

Yeah, the above step will speed up your Windows XP a bit when shared folder is enabled. To speed it up further, don't access the shares from network places. Instead, mount the shares on your Windows XP virtual machine as a drive. and directly access the shares from this drives which will appear under My Computer from Windows XP. All the best!

I just tried the hosts file trick. It works but the speed has not increased that much, i can still get better speed when shared folder is OFF. Now will try the second trick and post back. Thanks for those quick replies. If i encounter any problem, will post back...
