Updating Firefox on Ubuntu 9.04

Hello everyone! I installed Ubuntu 9.04 today and i noticed that Firefox version that is pre-installed with Ubuntu 9.04 is Firefox 3.0. Accoring to what i know, the latest verison of firefox is 3.5.2. I don't know how to update it, can anyone give me step by step procedure to update firefox 3.0 to 3.5.2? Thanks in advance...

From your ubuntu 9.04, open terminal and type :

sudo apt-get update

Now type :

sudo apt-get remove firefox

Now type :

sudo apt-get install firefox

These commands will first update the package repositories, then remove the older version of firefox and then install the latest version. All the best!

In my understanding if i remove the older firefox all my bookmarks, saved pages and everything will vanish. How do i avoid all those stuff? I need my bookmarks and saved passwords. Please help...

The best option would be to download the newer version of firefox and manually install it without removing the older version. This will just update the older version saving your bookmarks and saved passwords too. Also you can export the bookmarks and import it again after installation. See this thread :
