Cannot start Computer

Hi all newbie here.
I cannot get into windows

I have a raid set up with two 250 gig disks. I have down loaded recovery consul (using my laptop) placed the recovery info onto a cd, I place it into the cd drive of my PC, I hit the return button - as that is what I have to do to restart the os from the following point:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32\drivers\nvatabus.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original Setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Just before I get the above message/s, I get:- Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting fromC:\windows\

I have gone into the bios and set to “first boot from CD”, it will not read from the cd.

I cannot start with chkdsk, as I cannot get into anywhere, where that is possible.

When I hit the delete to allow access to options, no matter what I highlight and enter, "windows default " highlighted comes up. I hit return and it starts over again, ie, no last config, safe mode, etc, etc.

Installed recovery consul on cd, everything is on it. Checked the bios which is dual bios by the way.
It is a RAID set up two x 250 gig WD

Standard CMOS Features press return to open it.
Date
Time

Ide Channel 0 Slave [None]
Ide Channel 0 Master [None]
Ide Channel 0 Master [None}

Drive A [1.44M, 3.5"]
Floppy 3 Mode Support [Disabled]

Halt on [All , But Keyboard] hit esc to return to

Advanced BIOS Features press return to open
Hard Disk Boot Priority [Press Enter] (Highlighted, so I press enter.
1. SCSI-0 : NVIDIA STRIPS 465.77G
2. Ch1 : hard drive connected but not used
3. Bootable Add-in Cards
press esc to Advance BIOS Features
First Boot Device [CDROM]
Second Boot Device [CDROM]
Third Boot Device [CDROM]
Boot U&p Floppy Seek [Enabled]
Password Check [Setup]
Init Display First [Peg]

Integrated Periipherals press return to open

Everything in there is [Enabled] or [Disabled] the disabled items are not important for this problem.

I cannot get the damn thing to boot from the CDROM, which as you can see is first/second/and third boot device

How can I force it to read the cd?

Cannot start Computer

It seems that your computer is not allowing you to boot from Cd ROM or it might happen that disc which you are trying to use might have got corrupted because of which you are facing such kind of issue. At the same time alos check out the below links

I can't get my computer to start Windows XP Toshiba laptop
Computer won't boot -- no error message
Computer Won't start, not even in safe mode
Windows Vista won't boot after windows update

Re: Cannot start Computer

This is the message I receive:-
[Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32\drivers\nvatabus.sys

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Just before I get the above message/s, I get:- Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting fromC:\windows\]

Everything else in my first post, is what I have done, and explains the state of my bios. Whilst F8 will take me into safe mode etc, pressing the return button for any of the options, will only bring up "Windows default". When I press return for that, the computer restarts. That is as far as I can get.

I am going to get a mate to download and instal on a new disk, "Windows XP pro recovery consol" just in case there is a problem with that operation from my end. I am struggling with an old sony laptop, disk drive may not be working properly. I have to try everything before the b...r goes out the window.

Re: Cannot start Computer

Have you checked the jumper settings.

As per my knowledge its better to get a clean install of your windows XP OS.

Re: Cannot start Computer

If you can't start XP, it means that an event took place that prevented XP from completing its startup process. Try reseating all cables, cards, memory, power connections, etc. You might have plugged in something to some port. Try removing the RAM module that you installed and revert to old setting.

Re: Cannot start Computer

Hi I am new hear.

This morning I had problems with some anti virus software so I down loaded some new software and rebooted the system.
I then found that I could not get onto the Internet, so I removed the old antivirus software, and when this did not work I went to system restore. However the system got totally stuck and will not open at all. Can anyone give me some support.

Hello there, the issue that you are not able to connect to the internet after installing a new antivirus is that the antivirus that you have installed may be blocking the web pages from being opened. So, doing the required setting for the antivirus will solve the problem. By the way, which antivirus have installed?
