Invalid Media type error in Vista MCE

Sponsored Links
Hi,
I had recorded shows in my Media center. Now when I play the shows it shows invalid media type error. Other newly recorder shows are working fine. I had not also deleted it but still the error comes out. I worry that my data is corrupted. So weather it can corrupt my new data also. I had recently record more shows now. And I want the old one back. Is there a way by which I can get them. What is the reason behind this error. Any suggestion really appreciated.

Re: Invalid Media type error in Vista MCE

Th error comes up when the file on the disk is either damaged or corrupt. In which application are you trying to play the file. If it is in Media center then the issue is related to the hard disk. Media center is not able to read the data from the hard disk. You will have to either format the drive or run scan disk to fix the issue. If you are getting this error continuously then you will need to format your windows.

Try a third party disk manager software. You hard disk needs a scanning. There can be virus issue or bad sectors. You can back up the entire data for your Media center from the default folder. Media center normally saves all recorded shows in C:\Documents & set.. \ shared documents \ recorded shows. From the folder copy paste the data and scan your computer for errors. Hopefully if you run the Fdisk command from cmd it can show up some solutions.

Run disk Defragmenter tool. The error comes up when your operating system is unable to read the file from the hard disk. There are two assumptions here. First either the hard disk is having bad sector or second the file is corrupted or broken. Disk Defragmenter tool can fix some hard drive common issue without the need of formatting. Second thing try to get a scan disk software for your hard drive. Scan it and then see weather it is working or not.
