Go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and activity monitor go to Show Activity Monitor it comes by default, if it doesn't comes by default then go to top center pull-down menu. In this menu you can select the running processes in your mac os x.
You can use the ProcessViewer application to view running processes in mac os x and kill processes or open an OS X terminal by going into your Applications -> Utilities and selecting Terminal.
ProcessViewer is similar to "force-quitting" an application in Mac OS 8. To do this, highlight a process in the process listing and choose "Quit Process" from the Process menu. If clicking the "Quit" button doesn't work, try the "Force Quit" button. You open the ProcessViewer by choosing "Show All Processes" from the applications menu.
