Dynamically testing different resolutions
xrandr
or
xrandr --output VGA --mode 1024x768 --rate 75
Add undetected resolutions
xrandr --addmode VGA 1024x768
Click the "Main Menu" > Click "System" > click "Preferences" > "Screen Resolution " > Click the "Refresh Rate" > check the "Make default for this computer only" > After changing click the "Apply" button.After restarting your (ctrl-alt-backspace) desired resolution should be selected.
Use Easy Resolution Changer 1.0 to Change the resolution by simply running the program and selecting the desired resolution from a menu that pops up when ran.
