What is sptd.sys?

Hi, i have a window xp... my pc boots normally, but whenever i try to boot it in safe mode , it never boots up. it gives me message saying that whether i want to skip loading sptd.sys or not, not matter i choose yes or skip it gives me error loading windows and and system restarts and i can only boot in sae mode, Whats wrong? why i can't boot in safe mode? What is sptd.sys?

sptd.sys a valid program that is required to run at startup. This program is required to run on startup in order to benefit from its functionality or so that the program will work. It comes with a number of Drive Emulation and Disc Mastering software, including Daemon Tools and Alcohol (120% and 52%). When the original software (Alcohol, for example) is removed this driver stays in place. It is particularly hard to remove. Remove the applications like daemon tools and alcohol if installed. To remove the driver go to the device manager.

Start -> Run -> type devmgmt.msc press ok -> View -> Show hidden devices -> Non-plug and play drivers -> find "sptd" -> right click and Uninstall.

Could be from Daemon Tools or Alcohol , If you don't use Daemon Tools - remove SPTD drivers. They are useless for you!

Perform the following steps to remove SPTD.SYS :

• Delete SPTD.SYS from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.
• Reboot.
• Delete SPTD9885.SYS or the driver with similar name from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.
• Open regedit.
• Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SPTD.
• Right click and choose "Permissions" in the popup menu.
• Change the rights for Adminitrator group to Full access.
• Delete SPTD subkey.
• Do the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPTD.
