    Defrag the paging file in windows xp

    Hi,

    I am using and i have one doubt , I have a small question about the paging file. Is it true that I can not defragment without problem. I am running the default Defragmenter program in Windows. This Program cannot defrag any file that is currently open, which includes all system files, the Windows page file, and the Windows registry. So do I have to let it break? Please help me on this.
    Thank you!

    Re: Defrag the paging file

    The windows defragmenter defragments just does not work well with pagefile.sys. Prior to this operation that I advise you to work in

    • Start pc in safe mode
    • clean with ccleaner to clear unnecessary files
    • do the defragmentation classic collect files
    • page defrag spears
    • restart the defragmenter of windows to see the difference

    be careful not to tick: everyboot defragmented, it does absolutely nothing except make you lose time each time you open the computer.
    And we need to restart it 's running, as for storing the files in windows, it does so before the start of windows. It will need to wait very long after boot, it is normal.

    Download this tool PageDefrag 2.32. Disk Defragmenter in Windows a proper job, but it has a drawback: it does not defragments the paging file (swap) files or registry database. These files are used by Windows and fragmentation has a significant impact on performance. The program will even defrag your event logs! The list shows how fragmented the paging file is and all of the various registry hives (SAM, Software, System, etc).

    Hi,

    usually I do the following:
    * manage pagefile manually and then "use no pagefile"
    * reboot into safe mode
    * go to dos and do "C:\>attrib -r -s -h *.* /s"
    this frees unmoveable files
    * delete (clean) all unwanted files
    * run defrag
    * create new pagefile
    * reboot to normal mode
    works very well

    Re: Defrag the paging file in windows xp

    I use a simple and powerful tool to defrag the page file in Windows. The tool has the ability to defrag the paging file which the traditional software cannot do. In addition to that it creates a log file and saves on your system. When you run the application it will shows a listbox that will inform you about the clusters, event log and registry terms. When run the system reboots and the program is run immediately. Run chkdks to examing the process. The commonad line options for this tools is pagedefrag [-e | -o | -n] [-t <seconds>]. Where -e is for defraging every boot, -o is one time defrag, -n is never defrag and -t is count down in seconds.
