winlogon.exe crashes : xp

Hi,

I have windows XP pro. But since last 4 months the problem is that when I log off or shut down the system the winlogon.exe crashes. I dont know what should I do in this case.
This wont happen in safe mode. Can you suggest me what should I do with my XP machineto avoid winlogon.exe crashes?

I suggest you to run sfc or scannow to see the changes in the system files & then replace with correct files like thumbs_up.gif. For this you need the windows XP installer CD with service pack 2 or 3.

You need to have a look at this Microsoft article to work around.

I know the difficult situation and many issues with winlogon.exe addresses since the original version who was in the XP Service Pack 2. That doesn't speak specifically to your question doesn't mean it won't help you What address that KB article in Service Pack 3 will be integrated.
