    Windows xp re install Product key not being accepted

    Hi,

    Due to some virus i formatted my DELL Inspiron 640m which is been originally supplied with XP Home, Re built with XP Pro- own the copy Install went pretty fine unfortunately the Product Key is not about accepted, error message Product Key is invalid. tried full re format of drive to see no change.Anybody here to advise me to over come this

    How is that happening.it is bizarre? you have an original cd or what? There is no a unique method to figure out the product key if it's never been put on the system. It's pretty stupid that they put xp on it but put the vista key instead. I would guess that Micro center should be handling this as they are the one who created the fault.

    If you are using the Dell Re installation CD to install on a computer that came with XP, you do not want to provide the product Key or activate the installation.If you are using something else, it must be the similar version as the sticker ( Home, Pro or MCE ) and be an some installation cd.You can request a replacement installation cd to Microsoft
