    Hello everyone,

My Dell Dimension 3000 with 3.0GB P4, Windows XP Home SP3, 512MB RAM, 160GB HD unable to install any windows updates since past week.I probed it and find out that cryptsvc not being started because there is no path to it. The "Run - services.msc - Cryptographic Services - Properties - path to executable" window is blank and grayed out.not able to put the proper path. The Start up type is Automatic and the service is not started.Does any one know how to edit the "path to executable" window in order to get my windows update functional..

thanks goes to any brilliant ideas..!!

May be you can try the free DJLizard application called DialAFix to re register all the Windows Update stuff. Doesn’t hurt to try Dial-a-Fix, will minimize your download issues and some others if you need….. Go ahead and download Dial-a-Fix.

Probably the trouble maker could be a hijackware. You may try the following
See if you can download/run the MSRT manually Perform the the FULL scan. You have to download the MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan in Safe Mode with Networking. If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall Windows

Hi,there I would say Backup your personal data, then do a format & clean install of Windows. After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so take care all stuff on the following page prior otherwise hooking the machine to the internet or a network and prior using a USB key that isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted
