Minicom stays offline when connected

I have brought a usb to serial converter to work on the serial beagle board. Drivers installed well and after booting, the keyboard freezes [or beagle]. I cannot type anything and when i press Ctrl-A beagle says its offline. Minicom stays offline when connected? what may be the problem? Any suggestions?

Did the driver show any warnings or error while installing? Is the cable wiring proper? I guess its the converter that is faulty. Just to make sure it is working, try it on on a windows box. All the best!

Thanks for the swift reply, but yes, this is a brand new usb serial converter and it is working fine. To be sure i check it on my other computer which is a Windows XP based. It worked correctly... Is Mac not compatible with beagle or something like that?
