How to remove temporary program files

I have install windows xp on my system, it get slow when i open multiple browser while surfing and transfer data to another computer. This happens due to temp files which stored at every application. Can i remove all temp files?

TMP and TEMP both specify the directory to be used for temporary files.Click Start / Find and click Find Files or folders. In this dialog box, make sure where it says "look in", that it is looking at your C: drive. In the named box type *.tmp to search for any files ending with tmp.Verify that Look in section of the search box is pointing to the C: drive and not Document Folders.Click Find NowDelete all files that are found.
