Whats does rc stand for in dpkg

Hello friends... I am new to this forum. I have doubts with dpkg. I have removed all the packages related to php as i don't use it. i have removed php4 package and found that php4-common still exists so i removed it too, but now when i check it with dpkg command, by using

dpkg -l |grep php

it still shows me php4-common package and its status is 'rc'. Whats does rc stand for in dpkg? Please help guys...

The status which indicates 'rc' means the package is removed from your system successfully. Can you just pipe the dpkg command to give the output into a text file... May be that will show if there are any errors reflected in it... trp this

dpkg -l >> status.txt

Then open the status.txt file and post what you have in it here...

What does this indicate? Please help guys...

The first three lines indicate what the 'xxx' characters indicate in status. In status you have rc. Only two alphabets, this means, the package has been r-removed c-config files are existing on your computer and there is no third indication which means, there are no errors...
