    Macbook password recovery

Last month I went to out of town for some work and so left my Mac computer at my home. Now after coming back, I simply forgot my password on this computer. I want to recover my password as soon as possible. I tried a lot of things but none of them worked. Can you help to how to recover my password on my Macbook?

I don't think there is a proper way to recover the MAC password but you can always give it a try. Simply click on restart to start the computer once again. Now keep pressing "Command + S" until you see the texts in the window. Now at the Localhost% prompt type: "/sbin/mount -uw //sbin/SystemStarter". Now it will ask you for the password, try out "root". If this works then you are done and I think you know the further operations; or otherwise you will have to reinstall the OS.

I think the above person has missed some key points which I would like to add. So the procedure goes as keep holding Command + S when you are restarting Macbook. Now you can reset your root password using "passwd" command. Just use the command as: "passwd root" and then it will ask you for the new password. Now look for your username using "chk /Users directory" command. Change the password for that username as follows:

    Code:
    passwd <foldername>
enter the new passwd and then restart your computer.

To reset an account password under Macbook:

    1. Log in with an administrator account.
    2. From the Apple menu choose System Preferences.
    3. From the View menu choose Accounts.
    4. Click the lock button if it appears locked.
    5. Select the username whose password you want to change.
    6. Click the Reset Password button (Mac OS X 10.4) or the Change Password button (Mac OS X 10.5).
    7. Enter a new password in both the Password and Verify fields, and hint.
    8. Click the Reset Password button (Mac OS X 10.4) or Change Password button (Mac OS X 10.5)
    9. If a dialog box appears with the message "Your Keychain password will be changed to your new account password," click OK.

Resetting the original administrator account password

    1. Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc. Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager.

    2. Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue, then choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.

    3. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.

    4. Select the user name of your original administrator account.

    5. Enter a new password.

    6. Click Save.
