Error Message : "The Files for the Recovery Diskette Could Not Be Created"

    hello everyone,

I need to perform a full system backup. But when I use Ntbackup.exe to create a full system backup for Automated System Recovery (ASR), I received the following error message:

"The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted."

What is the reason of getting this error message ? How can I resolve it ?

IF anybody has any information about this, kindly provide and suggest your ideas...thnx

The reason for occurring this error message is --

if there are legacy Microsoft Windows NT FTDisk sets on the computer, which were created in Windows NT 4.0. FTDisk sets are not supported in Windows Server 2003.

Follow these instructions to resolve this problem :

    • Use Ftonline.exe to bring the FTDisk sets online.
    • Back up any data in the FTDisk sets.
    • Delete the FTDisk sets, and then use dynamic volumes to re-create them.

This error mesage - "The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted." is also known to occur when you run a backup program on the passive node of a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 server cluster. Due to this, the backup operation does not work. Instead, you receive such error message.

This symptom occurs when the following conditions are true:
    • As part of the backup operation, you are running Automated System Recovery (ASR) on the passive cluster node.
    • The shared disk resources on the passive cluster node have been moved to the active cluster node.
