usb port or usb drive causing blue screen of death

I have Vista Home Premium running on a HP Laptop. Everytime if I connect a usb hardware on my laptop whether it is an ipod, digital camera, pen drive, etc, the system will crash while transferring data and I get BSOD. I guess either the usb port has a problem or the laptop. So can anyone tell me how to solve usb port causing blue screen of death issues? Thank you

For refrence I get this error message:
    Stop: 0x000000Be ...
    ecache.sys - address 8266a620 base at 82669000
    wus up everybody?

Have you tried reloading all your drivers with the latest ones, also ensure your BIOS is up to date. If your RAM is checking out, then the only areas it could be are bad drivers or faulty hardware. I suggest fixing your drivers first with a clean OS install and update of all drivers. A small possibility is a virus, though unlikely. If you are running a firewall, ensure it is compatible with your Video and also up to date.

First, we have to stop the repeated reboots. Then we have to figure out what's wrong. To stop the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) and reboots is a matter of turning off an option.

    1. In the Control Panel, select System. A new window will open.
    2. On the Advanced tab, in the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button. A new window will open.
    3. In the System Failure section, remove the check mark from Automatically restart.
    4. Click OK and OK again to close the two windows and make this new option active.

In all cases you also might have either a driver problem or a BIOS problem. Let's try the easy solution first, which is to make sure the latest device driver is installed.
