Re: xp is not installing

Yes... you can try upgrading your BIOS. Here is how you can do it, Follw the steps :
  1. Reboot your computer and enter the Setup screen.
  2. Press the Print Screen key to make a record of each page of your settings.
  3. Find out the manufacturer and model of your current BIOS. Check for the information as your computer boots, or find it in the Setup screen information you printed. If neither method works, check the BIOS chip for identifying information.
  4. Check the manufacturer's website to see if the BIOS can be "flash" upgraded. If so, download the utility program. If not, proceed to Step 7.
  5. Copy the program to a floppy disk.
  6. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for running the program. Skip to last step
  7. Contact the manufacturer of your BIOS chip to find out if an updated chip is available, and if that chip will fit into the same slot on your motherboard.
  8. Get and install a new BIOS chip, if available.
  9. Again, reboot your computer and enter the Setup screen. If necessary, change the Setup back to the previous settings .

Re: xp is not installing

According to best of my knowledge, you need to change your Sata operation to IDE on your BIOS. I think this is why you are unable to install Windows Xp.

Re: xp is not installing

Intel ? ... are you sure it's not an asus motherboard instead as intel has no information regarding that model reference.

Some bios's have ide emulation for sata but not all do.

In this case you should locate the sata drivers for the unit from the manufacturer, unpack and burn to cd ... when installing xp you will notice an option at the bottom of the screen will ask if you need to install drivers related to sata / scsi ... you hit that function key ... on this system it's F6... swap discs and wait, then put the xp disc back in to continue.

Drivers which haven't completely installed can cause this issue, but after 5 hours I'd back the motherboard has suffered a major defect in the apic chipset (power management) or overheated north / south bridge.

Yes... linux will even load on a damaged motherboard provided the damage is not too severe ... where windows operating system will not.

Replace the motherboard or stick with linux.
