How to make a sata drive the main drive

I have a computer with Windows XP installed in the 160GB IDE hard disk drive. I then brought a new hard disk which was 500GB sata disk. I need help with it. How do i make a sata drive the main drive of my computer? Please help guys! Thanks in advance. Well i tried something but i guess it was not the right method/way to do it, so posted a topic.

Ok, that is quite easy, just follow the steps :

• Connect the new hard disks to your computer
• Remove the old hard disk's connections
• Change boot priority to CD-Rom from BIOS
• Save settings and Reboot Computer
• Insert Windows XP Installation Disc
• Boot from CD
• Partition the new hard disk and install Windows to the first partition
• Shutdown you computer when done
• Connect the old hard disk and reboot again.

Done.

Thanks for the help jesse, but that is not the way. I tried it that way too, But as soon as i connect the old hard disk it boots from the old hard disk. Is there a way to skip boot from the old hard disk so that it can boot from the new hard disk? BIOS screen shows me the option to select the boot device. But pressing the F12 key everytime is not feasible. Any other help?

Ok, its no problem. Go to bios configuration settings and go to boot option. there go to the hard disk priority. IDE is by default at higher priority then sata. Select your sata hard disk in the place of IDE hard disk and select the IDE in place of sata disk. This will now boot from the sata hard disk according to the priority you have selected for the hard disk drives...
