A file with the extension. REG (abbreviation registry) is a file containing instructions for making local changes to the registry. Simply double-click it to apply the changes or to open it with a text editor such as Notepad to edit it.

    1. Go to: Folder Options/File Types
    2. Click on "New"
    3. Add in Reg "file extension" then choose "Registry Editor" to be the "Associated File Type" (click on Advanced to make it appear as appropriate)
    4. Click "OK"
    5. Click on "Restore" (%1 should appear beside "Opens with:")
    6. Click "Close"

If you know what type of file it is and what program can open it:

    1. Right click on the file, select Properties (last point).
    2. Press the "program" and browse the application which is supposed to open the file.(in your case it is the registry Editor)

That's it. Then double-click file , and the program you have chosen must open the file. If you do not know the file type, then you are in trouble.
