disable system restore on USB and 1394 hard drives

    Hello
I would like to know is there a way to keep system restore enabled for the two permanent hard drives on my computer.I use a combination of USB and 1394 removable hard drives. but avoid it from adding all new drives to the list of monitored drives? Currently running XP Pro with C: as the OS drive and D: as a data drive, these never change, well almost never. Am considering dual-booting with Vista Ultimate soon also, will i have the same issue with it..i guess you guys can help me with this issue

    any ideas should be brilliant.!!!

I think the gpedit thing might have a possibility but from what I could realized it just leaves system restore in defaults which I think would finally bring the drives back to monitored status.I realized that the easiest way for me to do this is to have my drives turned off on reboot. If I do this system restore will only detect the drives as off line when I turn them on in windows.

My guess is what you better turn it off on each drive when it's plugged in. but in reality i would say there is no perfect excuse to put it turned on for your data drive just the system drive, as it won't back up common files, because you know what just the system files and the registry.

If possible make trial to remove it in the device manager and see if windows can re install it. If its for a device that is usb them right click it in device manager and click update driver say have disk and point to the drivers .inf file to reinstall it. and after that try to do what you wan to perform.
    good luck
