i am having problem with my Compaq presario sr1803wm after start it get hang and after waiting long i am not able to get response from it only i can do is restart or power off can any one help ?

That may be due to so application problem like due to most recent application that you have installed that can be conflict with operating system so you need to uninstall or restore latest changes i will suggest you to restorer not only recent application but also hardware too so undo changes ok use safe mode to uninstall application.

hi i had similar problem with XP . Whenever i start my computer, it freezes so I cant even access the Start button or the Taskbar. check here System Hanging at Startup

such problem can be due to virus it is possible that virus interrupting to operating system so its unable to respond so connect your master hard disk to other computer which have antivirus updated and scan your hard drive for virus. also check for any driver problem that can be for any hardware peripheral.

That can be due to any hardware problem do you having any error message at any where in scan disk you can try with bootable disk for solution with recovery console with chkdsk command. also check that hard disk working proper and dont have bad sectors.
