Consider two machines - A and B. If you put the drive from machine "A" into another machine "B", then you can use the regedit on machine "B" for accessing the hive files. For this, simply run Regedit and select the HKLM key and then from the "file" menu, you should see an option to load hive. Now, browse to the desired hive on the hard-drive you connected. Make sure that you have access to where the hives are stored. Note - for Windows XP it will be in the "windows\system32\config" directory, I would suggest to ensure you to have the necessary backups and backup each hive you intend on editing. |

Check if have an option to regedit directory on different drive using BartPE software or Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. Bart's PE Builder allows you to build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD. Functions :- - very suitable for PC maintenance tasks. - provides complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support. - very handy for burn-in testing systems with no OS, - rescuing files to a network share, virus scan and so on. This will replace any Dos bootdisk in no time! |
