it is very very very simple

Click on start then Select run and type regedit
after that locate the following location

    hkey_current_user> software> microsoft> windows> current version>
    policies> explorer

edit the option "nofolderoptions" in the "value data" replace "1" to "0"

    After save and exit

It is a virus that is causing the message "to modify the registry has been disabled by your administrator" to correct this:

Place the Following text in a file

    [version]
    signature = "$ CHICAGO $"
    [DefaultInstall]
    AddReg = AddMe
    [AddMe]
    HKCU, "Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System", "DisableRegistryTools", 65537.00

save as reg.inf on the desktop for example and then right click and install

Re: Gpedit.msc and Folder option Missing on Windows Xp

gpedit.msc console is not loaded with Win Xp Home and I think the Win Vista Home has followed the same footsteps as his predecessor. Like XP Home edition I don't believe the group policy editor is available in Vista Home edtions.
But there is a trick to solve this issue, you have to download the following ten file,

    • appmgmts.dll
    • appmgr.dll
    • fde.dll
    • fdeploy.dll
    • gpedit.msc
    • Gpedit.dll
    • gptext.dll

    • System.adm
    • inetres.adm
    • conf.adm

    1) you have copy and paste the blue files in:
    C:\windows\system32

    2) you have copy and paste the red files in:
C:\windows\system32\GroupPolicy\Adm (if this directory does not exist create it)

Once this has been done close all windows

Then copy each command line below in red, go to "Start" then "Run" and paste what you just copied ,Then confirm with "Ok":

    regsvr32 Gpedit.dll
    regsvr32 fde.dll
    regsvr32 gptext.dll
    regsvr32 appmgr.dll
    regsvr32 fdeploy.dll

And voila you have installed the management strategy for Windows Xp Home (family)

    >>> To start the tool management strategy go to "Start" then "Run" and type:

    gpedit.msc

Re: Gpedit.msc and Folder option Missing on Windows Xp

i have 2 desktops and i did the same thing to both (copy those file to system32, register the dll...), however only one desktop works (manage to open the group policy window), but the other desktop shows me this message: Access is denied

someone told me that i have to be the administrator, but the thing is, i am the ONE & ONLY user on both desktops! could anyone provide some solution? Thanks

    regards,

I think you have to give your self full control rights for those files, see this thread to know how to do this Taking Ownership . Good luck

    Hi Derwin,

thanks for the reply, i've read the thread u sent. but when i right click on the folder which i want to take ownership, there isn't any 'security tab'. When i go to control panel > administrative tool, i cant even click on any of those icons. it keep on saying 'Access is Denied', but again, i am the ONE & ONLY user on the computer.
