I guess your was a laptop that had Windows Vista bundled with it, Right? Some new laptops that are bundled with Windows Vista cannot support Windows XP. Specially the Sound and wifi drivers won't work. Well check if dell has one available for Windows XP if your problem is what i am talking about. If you find one driver that works, you're a luck man!

I'm just trying to remove windows vista.
I've called dell assistance and they give me list of drivers for windows XP to download and installation order.
I went to dell website, inserted the service tag of my E6400, download all the drivers (in my case about 577 MB).
I will try installation by the end of the week and hope it will working cause Vista IS NOT MY OS!!! :-D

Here you will need Windows XP bootable disc. Just insert the disc. A windows menu will appear. Select install XP. It will ask you to upgrade or to install a fresh copy. Select the second option of clean installation. If it ask for a path and then provide the location where you want to put it. The default is C drive. Then your laptop will restart and windows will start installing. You will need to keep your Serial Key ready because the setup will ask for that.
