Re: How to use windows vista defrag in recovery mode?

I am logged into the system as an administrator in safe mode but I am still not able to load this vista defrag program.
I don't understand why doesn't Vista's disk defrag work in safe mode?
Does it have to be done in command prompt?
    Please help..

    Try this:
Right click the "Command Prompt" button and select "Run as administrator". A command prompt window will appear. Everything you run in this Window will be run with administrator rights.
Vista treats defragging as a hidden background task
To start defrag in safe mode do this
right click on hdd select properties - tools -defragment now.
Please have a look at this thread too: Disk Defrag problems
    Hope this helps.

You can use the Disk Defragmenter tool in windows vista to consolidate fragmented data on the disk and optimize the hard disk for its best performance. Vista has automatic defragging running by default but you can't see anything happening as there is no interface In Vista you can schedule the Disk De fragmenter to run at regular intervals and enable you to ensure a fast system. Just go to control panel, and select the defrag tool from there. It is already a part of windows, and you don't need to download it. If you want to use something other than the default defragger on Vista, then check out Diskeeper 2009 here http://www.diskeeper.com
