What does x1exec.exe do in Windows XP computers

I recently noted this application under my Windows Task Manager. It was not appearing before last week. But since last Windows Update, it started appearing and runs everytime I start my computer. Is it essential? Does it belong to Windows? What is the need of x1exec.exe in Windows XP computers?

x1exec.exe is a process belonging to the NetZero Internet service providers Internet accelerator application. x1exec.exe is required by third-party software or hardware. Ideally it consumes 5MB of RAM. This program is non-essential process, but should not be stopped unless it causes any problems. X1exec.exe is usually located in %PROGRAM_FILES% sub-folder and sizes 1,216 MB.

The x1exec process belongs to the Accelerator software used by NetZero/Juno. It is located in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files" and is hidden. This file is not a Windows core file. It uses a LAN port to connect to Internet. The process starts everytime when Windows gets loaded. However you can remove this file using Control Panel - Add\Remove Programs window.

It is a system file that NetZero Software uses to access Internet. If is blocked by your firewall, try unblocking it as follows (for instance , I am using McAfee Personal Firewall Plus):
    1. Start the McAfee Personal Firewall Plus Program
    2. Click New Allowed Application
    3. Select the NetZero folder from the drop-down menu in "Select Application to Allow" window that appears
    4. Select x1exec
    5. Click Open
    6. Search the file from the Internet Applications list and click on Permissions
    7. Select Allow Full Access
