| Windows Activation Log in and Log out infinte loop
I have been using Windows XP since a real long time. It never had any problems be it for drivers or update from microsoft. Suddenly last evening it did a security update and rebooted. When i click on my account and enter my password to log in it tells me that i need to activate windows before i can log in. If i click no, i will be taken to the login screen. If i click yes, it tells me windows is already activated and again brings be to the log in screen. This happens in a loop, and i'm stuck at the log in screen, there is no way i can see how to log into windows. Can anyone help me solve this problem, i'm really screwed... Thanks for any help! |

I thing you will need to register some dll files again. Reboot you computer into same mode. To do so, reboot and keep pressing F8 key till it gives you a list for logging into windows. From the list select safemode and press enter. Now when the computer loads, go to start>run, and type the following in command prompt : Code: regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll regsvr32.exe licdll.dll |

Thanks for the quick rely, i did what you said and that doesn't help too... What can be done now? Do i need to repair my windows? Or do i clean install from scratch? I don't want to do either if possible to solve this problem without doing so... Any other help? |

I think you need to repair some files. You will not need to re-install windows if this works. You will need your windows xp cd to get some files. Reboot your computer in safemode and insert your Windows XP CD into the rom. I assume your CD-Rom's drive letter is 'd' so replace it wherever necessary. Open command prompt and type the following commands, each line should be followed by pressing Enter : Code: expand d:\i386\licwmi.dl_ c:\windows\system32 expand d:\i386\regwizc.dl_ c:\windows\system32 expand d:\i386\licdll.dl_ c:\windows\system32 expand d:\i386\wpabaln.ex_ c:\windows\system32 ren wpa.dbl wpa.old expand d:\i386\wpa.db_ c:\windows\system32 copy c:\windows\system32\licwmi.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache copy c:\windows\system32\regwizc.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache copy c:\windows\system32\licdll.dll c:\windows\system32\dllcache copy c:\windows\system32\wpabaln.exe c:\windows\system32\dllcache regsvr32.exe licwmi.dll regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll regsvr32.exe licdll.dll exit go to the following location : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Add a DWORD value in this location and set its value to 1. Close Registry Editor and reboot your computer |

Open registry editor and navigate to the following location : Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents Right-click OOBETimer, and click Modify. Change any one digit from the value shown there and click OK to close. Exit the registry editor and in Run dialog box type "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" and press Enter. Then click on "Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows" and click Next. Now call microsoft on the toll free number and activate your windows again. All the best |
