Re: Vista Home Premium Installation size

Vista size varies between editions but not significantly, also 64-bit version is much bigger than the 32-bit version, as it contains a lot of 32-bit version file and applications on the 64-bit.Vista 32-bit is about 6GB.Vista 64-bit is about 8GB.
Vista itself has a recommendation of a minimum of about 15GB, so I'd suggest making a space of 20GB, to be on the safe side, and even if it's much smaller than 15GB, you'll still have plenty of space to experiment, and install programs on the Vista partition that are Vista only or have problems with being on seperate partitions or that just plain don't like XP/Vista dual-boots.every time you install an application they usually places file in the system drive, then you have Windows update which take space as it contain all it needs to revert an update, then you have Service packs, and then to make things more interesting, you have your system backup that Windows does when you want and before every driver, software installer, and system update. If you are limited in space, suggest at least 30GB for Vista

    95: 50 MB - 4MB RAM
    '98: 500 MB - 16 MB RAM
    ME: 320 MB -
    XP: 4.2 GB -
    Vista: 15 GB

Pagefile, Hibernation file and System Restore points all chew up HDD space quite fast.all though im not sure i guess about 4gigs for the vista setup,1gb for the system restore (approx) and 1.5 your system memory for the swap file.If you have the space, and you're typically virus-free/active on the internet, System Restore should be left on IMO ....
