    MMC Class Not Registered

I am getting "Class not registered" error when I try to go to "Computer Management" console. Basically I click on Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools and then as soon as I click on "Computer Management", I get that message with "Microsoft Management Console" in the title. I surfed a lot for this error but didn't find any result. Can you help me on this?

There are many ways to solve this issue, but the real cause of this problem is still unknown. This problem is basically related to "Component Services", and when you open Component Services MMC, you will may get some error code alongwith "Class Not Registered" error message. You first delete IIS related packages in Component Services MMC: "IIS In-Process Applications", "IIS Out-of-Process Pooled Applications" and "IIS Utilities". Now recreate the IIS packages in COM+ using below command at the command prompt:

    Code:
    c:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\>rundll32 wamreg.dll, CreateIISPackage
    Code:
    c:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\>regsvr32 asptxn.dll
    Code:
    c:\winnt\system32\inetsrv\>IISRESET

To resolve this problem, reinstall Component Services as follows:

    1. Open registry editor, locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3, and then delete this key.
    2. Now go to Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove Programs.
    3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
    4. Proceed through the wizard, and accept all of the defaults.
    5. Restart the computer.

    Re: MMC Class Not Registered

Well I suppose you need to update MMC to version 3.0 which hosts a variety of operating system tools and third-party administrative tools.

Download MMC 3.0 for Windows XP x86-based versions

Download MMC 3.0 for Windows XP x64-based versions

    Note:
    • To apply this software update on Windows XP, x86-based versions, you must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed on the computer.
    • Additionally, you must have version 2.0.50727 of the Microsoft .NET Framework installed on the computer.
    • You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update unless MMC is running at the time of the installation.
