How can i prevent deletion of System Restore Points in Dual Booting

I need some urgent help from you all guys. I want to do a dual boot the system having Vista with Windows XP.But whenever i am trying to do that, i guess all restore points created by Vista will be deleted from the disk because Windows XP automounts every disk it detects, including external or removable hard disks, which i dont want to be. So what i want from you all guys is the way i can prevent the deletion of Vista System Restore Points while dual booting. Is that possible , How? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: How can i prevent deletion of Vista System Restore Points

Well, thats true, if you dual boot with Xp on vista, it will delete the Sytem restore points of vista because this version of volsnap.sys does not recognize the persistent shadow copies made by the volsnap.sys driver in Windows Vista, Windows XP cannot maintain the integrity of the shadow copy storage area and deletes the shadow copies to avoid corrupting them. but fortunately we have a fix for the same. Heres how:-
    • Open command prompt by log in to Xp and type gpedit. Thsi will open the registry editor.
    • Now locate to the following folder:-

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
    • Now create a new key by right clicking on the MountedDevices and name this key Offline.
    • Now go to Offline folder and in the right pane, create a new DWORD (32bit) Value by right clicking on empty area and name it as \DosDevices\D:.
    • Type 1 in the value data of \DosDevices\D: by right clicking on it and press OK.

Thats it !! Close the registry and restart the Xp. Now Vista System Restore Points is prevented while dual booting with Windows XP.
