ATIKMDAG stopped responding in vista

I have installed windows vista on my system. I have ATI Radeon HD 4850. I get an error message while playing game. My computer suddenly freezes for sometime and it shows error "display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered". I have reinstalled the driver for my graphics card.Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?Any help will be extremely appreciated.atikmdag stopped responding vista standby

Check that windows, your monitor, and the games are all set at the same refresh rate ie. 75Hz. Try to disable vista aero, stop and disable a service called DWM (device window manager).

The graphics setting in Hd 4850 are too high so the computer can't display anything. Reinstall the game and set the graphics very low as an experiment. There's something wrong with the installation. Again, uninstall and reinstall the game.If neither of the above is the problem then get a warranty replacement of your card!

I had a similar issue and resolved it by uninstalling ATI Catalyst Control Center, see the ATI website to see how to properly uninstall without removing the driver.

This removes the atikmdag command and will stop the error & instability.

Also go to the ATI website to see if they have any new drivers and versions of CCC.
