Re: Difference between Sleep or Standby and Hibernate

Hibernate is like making image file of you desktop , including all current applications, files and tasks that are open. After hibernating the system you can simply turn of the power switch as you do after switch off the PC. And when you resume back to windows via power turn on switch, you'll find all your applications and files in same condition as they are before you hibernate the system.

Standyby simply reduces power used by your computer to almost zero level. In Standby mode power for computer screen, hard drives, and other peripheral devices gets cut. Power only to RAM memory is continued to ON because of the current files and application stays open.

Re: Difference between Sleep or Standby and Hibernate

Sleep: Turns off all computer funtions and leaves power to the memory so that your memory doesn't erase allowing a quick access to the computer. The bad thing about this is because it still has to provide power it must keep the power supply running. Taking electricity and having a noisy fan running constantly.

Hibernate: This moves all the files from the memory to the hard drive. So when you boot up your computer it moves them back from the hard drive to the memory. Doing this allows the computer to completely shut down and have no fans running. The bad thing is this requires more time to boot up.
