Microsoft has made available for download the development tools for the Windows Media Center component of the Windows 7 RC operating system. The Windows SDK for Windows 7 RC provides documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools designed to help you develop Windows applications using both native (Win32®) and managed (.NET Framework) technologies. It is clear that the Redmond company is keeping up with the evolution of Windows 7 when it comes down to the Windows Media Center SDK 6.0. In the first half of February 2009, Microsoft was releasing the Windows Media Center SDK for the then Beta Build 7100 of the next iteration of the Windows client. Since then the SDK has moved forward on the development process, and the latest release is tailored to the RC build 7100 of Windows 7.
To build and run .NET Framework applications, you must have the corresponding version of the .NET Framework installed. This SDK is compatible with Visual Studio® 2008, including Visual Studio Express Editions, which are available free of charge. The Windows SDK is available as a DVD ISO image file so that you can burn your own DVD. If you do not need to burn a DVD the SDK is also available via web setup. The successor of Windows Vista features a superseding SKU model. In this sense, Windows Media Center is included in all platform editions starting with Home Premium, namely Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. Microsoft started offering Windows 7 to MSDN and TechNet subscribers on April 30th, 2009 and to the public on May 5th. Windows 7 RC continues to be available as a free download from the Redmond company.
