Install linux without a CD-Rom

I wanted to know if it was possible to install a linux distribution without cd (I have no recorder on my pc). For example with boot disks, or USB key.
If yes, what distributions?

I have taken a look at linux-usb, and I put on my Shinux key, but the trouble is that my bios does not support usb boot.
I'll get a burn on the laptop of my father. But linux is what is really worth compared to XP pro? So it seems the internet setup is rather complicated.

I also tried linux (ubuntu 5.10 live cd) and I had the same problem as you for the connection. So I search on google. And I found a way forward. You go on the terminal, something a bit like the command prompt on windows, and you tapes:

sudo pppoeconf

I wondered, when serious linux, it's as if you unpack the iso file, and you copied the files on cd, right?
Or, if you unpack the iso file, type ubuntu, and that the copy on USB, and it configures the BIOS USB ZIPP priority, there is no reason why ubuntu does not even if it is via USB.

It only lacks the boot sector so that it starts. You can use SysLinux compensate for that.
