| Installing Mandriva impossible
Actually it freezes after a series of lines in text mode and tried the different choices of the "kernel options" when I choose "No Local APIC" there are a series of lines and it stops at the line: pci 0000:00:1 E.0 PREFETCH window: 0x0000 ... Before, it was stated that "ACPI: ACPI bus type pnp unregistered" and "PnPBIOS: Disabled". Is this normal? |

Have you tried the "No ACPI" and/or "No Local APIC" and/or "vga = 790" option? Also what version are you using? Just try some other one. |

Yes when I choose kernel options in "No ACPI" it goes a bit further but it still ends by block. For "No Local APIC", it changes nothing and doing so causes freezing very quickly. And for VGA = 790, I do not see where I can choose it ... I am using "Mandriva Linux One 2009.1 KDE4". Can some other version fix the problem? |

| Re: Installing Mandriva impossible Yes, it happens if your computer is too old. As against your problem, I suppose it is because of bad BIOS. You should try to update it from Windows. |

| Re: Installing Mandriva impossible
Ok, but the problem is that I can not just start the computer, then how can I update the BIOS? Against using the key combination "Alt Impr R", then "ctrl alt f1" I can switch to text mode after the install (no ACPI) comes up. Then I type "root" localhost after login, and I write "startx" and then it gives me black screen fixed after showing a series of black and white screens very soon ... When I repeat my key combination, I am back in text mode, and it writes: Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting giving up xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Servor error. |
