Can I lock a folder in Vista

Hello, I have a laptop with Vista, which is used by my family occasionally. Since I have some file that I would like to keep secret, I'd like to know if it is possible to put all in a single folder and protect it by a password. You could always say to create new disc but creating it would be a hectic procedure. So if anyone can help it would be great. Thank you

    Download Winrar
Right click it, then add to archive.
    Click advanced tab.
Set password, then type it in, top and bottom line, then ok.
    Don't forget!

This is the only method I know of.
    Hope that helps

Follow the below method to lock a folder in Vista:

    1. If you want to lock a folder then right-click on that folder and select Properties, then go to Security tab, and click Edit.

    2. A new window will open, now under “Group and User Names”, select the user from the list whom you want to deny access to a specific folder, now under “Permissions for Users” check the Deny checkbox next to Modify(all other checkbox will get ticked automatically).

    3. Click OK and then click Yes when a Windows Security window will pops-up.

    4. Now click OK again and you are done. Now the specific user that you selected from the list will be denied access to this folder.

    Good luck.

    LOCKING A FOLDER:
First create a folder in the drive you like

suppose you created a folder called "abc" in C drive

Secondly you need to open command prompt. Go to start>run>cmd

Now type the command: attrib +s +h c:\abc

    And then hit enter

Now go ahead and check the folder in the drive you will se its missing.

It has become a hidden system folder.

To get the folder back you need to type: attrib -s -h c:\abc

    And hit enter.

You will find your folder is back........

Once it is hidden if you enable show hidden files and folder still you will not be able to find it.

It works great.........you can keep your folder safe...
