Re: How to allow Remote Control to desktop in Ubuntu

To do so , follow this steps:-

    1. Navigate to the System \ Preferences \ Remote Desktop on the Gnome top menu.

    2. You'll see a window having this two check boxes:
    • Allow other users to view your desktop
    • Allow other users to control your desktop

These two checkboxes need to be checked in order for remote desktop to be enabled

    3. The Security section is important: If you select the "Ask you for confirmation" code, then you will need to be at the computer in order to allow the other person to access your desktop. If you are trying to remotely access one of your own computers, you will want to uncheck this box.

    4. The second checkbox should always be checked, and you should enter a secure password. You will be prompted for this password when you try to log on.

Now for connecting from Ubuntu Machine:-

Open your terminal from Applications—>Accessories—>Terminal and enter the following command

    vncviewer -fullscreen 192.168.2.23:0

now you should see the following message asking for password enter the password after complete success you can see VNC authentication succeeded message and starting remote desktop

    VNC viewer version 3.3.7 - built Jul 4 2006 10:04:48

See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.
VNC server supports protocol version 3.7 (viewer 3.3)
    Password:
    VNC authentication succeeded

If you want to quit vncviewer

Press ‘F8′ and select Quit viewer

    Thats it !!

It is important to note that there are both secure and insecure ways to access a remote desktop. Although both approaches will be covered, the secure method is strongly recommended when accessing remote desktops over an internet or other insecure connection. Remote Desktop will only work if there’s a GNOME login session.Leaving your computer with an unattended GNOME login session is not secure and not recommended.

Re: How to allow Remote Control to desktop in Ubuntu

In order to access a Linux remote desktop from a Windows system the first step is to install a Windows VNC client on the Windows system. There are a number of VNC packages available for Windows.Download and install TightVNC on your Windows system. Once installed, launch the TightVNC Viewer and in the resulting Connection details dialog enter the IP address or hostname of the remote system and press OK. Enter the password if one is required. The screen should load and display the remote desktop,
