    Cannot hibernate vista lock

    Hello Guys,

I am facing strange issue since last 2-3 days.
Whenever I try to hibernate my laptop (HP Compaq 6510b), it locks the computer instead of hibernating. So now every time, I have to shut it down.
No software changes made during these days.
I have also tried disabling and enabling hibernation, still no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks..
    RK

I disabled all non-microsoft startup programs and services and checked Event Viewer and found Error for volmgr.

I proceeded to uninstall the following Dell Drivers I had installed during the initial installation of the OS:
R154200.EXE (Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver 7.0.0.1020 A02)
    R154164.EXE (Intel Turbo Memory Driver 1.0.0.1082 A00)
R154200.EXE (Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver 7.0.0.1020 A02)

I then installed the following Intel drivers:
    Intel Matrix Storage Manager 7.6.0.1011
    Intel Turbo Memory 1.5.0.1013

My notebook now works perfectly and there are no issues with sleep or hibernation.

    Try this-

    >> Go to device manager
    >> Right click on various devices (most likely network cards)
    >> Select properties
    >> Go to the power managment tab >>
    >> Make sure 'allow this device to wake the computer' is unchecked.

Try Re-Enabling Hibernate Option in Windows Vista

    • Type cmd into the start menu search box, and use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open in administrator mode. You can also right-click the item in the menu and choose Run as Administrator.

    • From the command prompt, type in the following command: powercfg /hibernate on

    • You'll have to restart your computer before it will take effect.

    Alternate Method -

    • Go to the command prompt icon in the Start menu under Accessories and right click the icon: click "Run as administrator".
    • Paste: "powercfg.exe /hibernate on" and hit Enter and also paste "powercfg -h on" and hit enter just to be safe.
    • Open Control Panel and type in "Hibernate" in the Search.
    • Click "Turn hibernation on or off"
    • Click "Change advance power settings"
    • Scroll to and expand the "Sleep" option.
    • Select "Off" to the "Allow hybrid sleep" option.
    • Scroll to and expand the "Power buttons and lid" option.
    • Select "Hibernate" for the "Sleep button action" option.
    • Select "Hibernate" for the "Start menu power button" option.

Hopefully, one of the methods will work....

    Hi Lillebror,
    This one is already "unchecked".

    Re: Cannot hibernate vista lock

Had this same problem and this is the fix, obtained through much frustration and trial and error. Pissed me off that is was as simple as running a AVG anti-rootkit.

    Hope this works for everyone
