    1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.

    2. Navigate to the following path:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

    3. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right pane and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button.

    4. Exit Registry, restart your computer and then again re-connect your USB pen drive on your computer. That is it, done.

Re: Help! my pendrive cannot be formatted

Relax...First, insert the pen drive and open My Computer. Right-click the USB drive and select Format....

If it does not allow you to format and says that the disk is write protected,
    do the following-
    > remove the pendrive and reinsert it and repeat the process
    If this doesn't work,
    > close all the applications running and again repeat the process
    If this also doesn't work,
    > restart the pc and continue...

Now, Select the File System that best suits your needs, and give the drive a name in the Volume label field. I would prefer NTFS. Click Start to format the drive.
Click OK on the warning window. Now the formatting will begin, once done Click OK.
Your Pen drive is now formatted.

For such condition the best thing is to find a newly formatted operating system installed computer, and then format your pen drive by right click - format. it will work 99.9%. I had done with 3 such defected pen drives and now all of them are working well.(It happens only due to virus intrusions). ( you can format your own pc if and only if you are aware of formatting and reinstalling OS, untill or unless you don't get any other system.)
