recognizing 3.1GB ram instead of 4GB in windows XP home

I am making use of windows XP home which I suppose is most consistent operating system of all times of windows and as we are all familiar to it I think you guys would have definite solution to my query. So I am with windows issue which is saying that I only have 3.1GB ram when I have 2x2GB G.SKILL 1600 sticks. And in addition to this one, my bios states 2048 for the first slot as well as second slot.

So if you are making use of an 32 bit Operating system that 3.1 is almost certainly correct as 32 bit system can simply map 4 gigs, which comprise your video ram as well as some other memory used by hardware which leaves only 2.8 and 3.5 Gigs available to the operating system as well as programs. And in this case, you require 64 bit operating system to make optimum use of 4 gigs of ram.

I need to inquire some thing in this case and as are you making use of an 1 Gig Video card, If so almost certainly not without switching to a 64 Bit operating system or else going with a 512 Meg Video card it is not at all worth it if not you are running out of memory. The quantity of ram only tends to be an issue if you are switching memory in an out of windows swap file.

Are you making use of Windows 32-bit? It will only tend to recognize only max. 3.25 GB memory. simply 64-bit Windows notices 4GB or additional. You need to right-click on My Computer, and then you need to select Properties. And then have an look at the RAM section. What does it write?

There is some solution which you can opt for. You are able to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 bit. Do not side-grade to Windows XP x64. though, if your motherboard has an on-board GPU then you need to disable it in together the BIOS as well as in the Device Manager and you can gain approximately +0.25GB~+0.5GB depending on the quantity of 'shared' memory it will tend to have.

I have not resolved this issue up till now. I would inquire further that If I only have a 512 mb gpu why do I only have 3.1 memory rather than 4 . can you make some suggestions in this case and provide some definite answers. Thanks .
