    Re: Repair permissions problems

This error message is typically a symptom that BaseSystem.pkg has been deleted or moved. As discussed, this file is created when Mac OS X is installed, so to solve this issue, you need to reinstall Mac OS X 10.3/10.4. You can also copy it from a different computer, which is using the same version of Mac OS X.

If you lose data because of primary volume formatting while Mac OS X reinstallation, Data Recovery Mac utilities can restore it back. Mac Data Recovery software scans and recovers lost information through powerful scanning algorithms, though offering the interactive interface for easy Mac Data Recovery.

    Re: Repair permissions problems

To repair permissions, open the Disk Utility program found in the Applications>Utility folder on your hard drive root level directory. At the top of the Disk Utility window is a row of tabs. Click on the First Aid tab. On the left is a list of the disk and volumes mounted on your computer system. In the example below, I have two mounted volumes - one named SHHD and another named Media. You will need to click on your boot volume to select it. Only boot volumes can have permissions repaired.

If the buttons labeled "Verify Disk Permissions" and "Repair Disk Permissions" are grayed and not selectable, you have not selected the boot volume or you are not a system administrator. To allow system administrator approval to repair permissions, click on the padlock button on the lower left and enter a system administrators name and password.

Once you have selected a boot volume and have system administrator privileges, you can go ahead and click on the Repair Disk Permissions button. You will see the process begin with messages in the center window and a progress bar below it. This process may take a while

Once done, you can quit the Disk Utility program. You do not have to reboot the system for the changes to be effective

    Re: Repair permissions problems

    2) Repair Permissions all information: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452?viewlocale=en_US
(it is sometimes necessary to repeat 3 times)

    Method No. 1
    To boot into "single-user mode:
    1) Restart the computer (by pressing the reset button if necessary).
    2) Immediately after the startup sound, simultaneously press the Apple key and "S" ... A series of text lines on the screen ... Release the keys .... And you get to a line ending with the famous above-mentioned symbol (#).
Bravo! You are then single-user mode! You will now finally able to run fsck 1. Simply type this after the # symbol: fsck-y (if your partition is not logged) or fsck-f (if your partition is logged) and the "send" (the large button with the arrow that is half - tour, called "carriage return").
NB: Leave a space between "k" of fsck and the "-" below!
    2) Let's go for a test series and "turn of the screw." If repairs are needed, you will have this message:

***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

In this case retype fsck-y (or fsck-f) until the message appears more!
    and repeat three Frois
    3. When fsck tells you that everything is ok, there are no more problems after three times, then type this after the # symbol: reboot
    4. Réappuyer the "carriage return" (sending). The computer restarts !!!!.

NB: Be careful! When you are "single-user mode, your computer keyboard is no longer AZERTYUIOP but QWERTY is to typing fsck-f -y/fsck, use the right keys!! Use the "-" (minus) on the numeric keypad.
To help, here's what has a QWERTY keyboard

Put simply, this is not the dash button, but just to his left, close the parenthesis

    Warning!
Well type fsck-y and not y = fsck because your keyboard is "qwerty" rather than "azerty" in "user" (use "-" key on the numeric keypad!)

NB: The command fsck-y does not work unless you have disabled logging.
If logging is enabled, then type fsck-f instead of fsck-y!
